I'll start with Bayville's very beginning.. Bayville was purchased from The Matinecock Indian Tribe of northern Long Island in the year 1658. The original document listing all the items given to the Indians for Bayville, is held in the Town Hall building in the Town of Oyster Bay, not to be confused with The Town(ship) of Oyster Bay. ( T.O.B. ) In the beginning, Bayville was named, "Oakneck." Later on, the spelling of Oakneck was changed to, "Oak Neck."
