On this day in History... April 11, 1793, two hundred and twenty eight years ago...
the Commonwealth of Massachusetts held a day of fasting, humiliation, and prayer "to acknowledge their entire dependence on the Supreme Being," with labor and recreation suspended on the said day, to encourage gathering to ask God's forgiveness and His blessings.

Take-away lesson: This proclamation by John Hancock provides accurate insight and a sound example of the Founding Father's understanding of the First Amendment's Establishment Clause and Free Exercise Clause (which have now become known as "separation of church and state" ).
Application: The Founding Fathers would've approved of one wearing the slogan "Jesus Loves Me" in a government school.
