Tired of watching the news? Hard to watch the end of civilization? If you are a Christian reading this, it's partially your own fault.
The often quoted Second Chronicles 7:13-14 says, "When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, *or send pestilence among My people,* if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
It should be obvious from this verse that God's people have done none of what was required. Please people, look in the mirror and fall out of love with that stuff. It's not too late.
Ecclesiastes 1:10 says "Is there a thing of which it is said, "See, this is new"? It has been already in the ages before us." Between that and "Do not say, “Why were the former days better than these?” For you do not inquire wisely concerning this." (7:10 ) I would have to conclude that politics has always been corrupt and things are not worse now than things were in previous years. It is now just easier to see what is going on in spite of the media bias.
I heard the term "The Fourth Estate" on Perry Mason today. That is the first time I heard the term used so I looked it up. According to Wikipedia the term refers to the press and news media both in explicit capacity of advocacy and implicit ability to frame political issues. Though it is not formally recognized as a part of a political system, it wields significant indirect social influence.
Indirect? The force has a powerful effect on the feeble minded.
