Rhodes Scholarship
British statesman and financier Cecil Rhodes, whose fortune was used to endow the world-famous Rhodes Scholarships, was a stickler for correct dress—but apparently not at the expense of someone else’s feelings. A young man invited to dine with Rhodes arrived by train and had to go directly to Rhodes’s home in his travel-stained clothes. Once there he was appalled to find the other guests already assembled, wearing full evening dress. After what seemed a long time Rhodes appeared, in a shabby old blue suit. Later the young man learned that his host had been dressed in evening clothes, but put on the old suit when he heard of his young guest’s dilemma.

Romans 15:1
We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves.

1 Corinthians 9:22-23
To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, so that I may share in its blessings.

1 Corinthians 9:19
For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them.

Five Times Fire Came Down From Heaven To Show Approval

(1) The first offerings in the Tabernacle. - Leviticus 9:23-24
God meets with his people through his priest in the portable dwelling place for the divine presence

(2) David Builds an Altar on the threshing floor (future location of the Temple) - 1 Chronicles 21:26
God shows David to establish his altar and temple (a permanent dwelling place) at Moriah in Jerusalem.

(3) The first offerings of Solomon’s Temple - 2 Chronicles 7:1
God now meets with the nation of Israel at the temple in Jerusalem.

(4) Elijah defeats the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel - 1 Kings 18:38
Because the priesthood had become corrupt God raised up prophets, who read and expounded the word

(5) The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost Acts 2:3
With Pentecost the Holy Spirit now dwells in us, our bodies become literally, the Temple of God.

Satan’s Counterfeits
In the end-times tribulation, the false prophet will cause FIRE to come down from heaven as a means of deceiving people into worshiping the Antichrist (Revelation 13:13 And it performed great signs, even causing FIRE to come down from heaven to the earth in full view of the people.).

Scriptures for the verses mentioned above.
Leviticus 9:23-24 Moses and Aaron went into the tent of meeting. When they came out and blessed the people, the glory of the LORD appeared to all the people. 24 Then FIRE came out from before the LORD and consumed the burnt offering and the portions of fat on the altar; and when all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces.

1 Chronicles 21:26 David built an altar to the LORD there and sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. He called on the LORD, and the LORD answered him with FIRE from heaven on the altar of burnt offering.

2 Chronicles 7:1 When Solomon finished praying, FIRE came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.

1 Kings 18:38 Then the FIRE of the LORD fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench.

Acts 2:3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of FIRE that separated and came to rest on each of them.

I’m currently studying the book of Revelation. My question --- are THE SEVEN SPIRITS in verse 4 below THE SEVEN SPIRITS we see in Isaiah 11?

Revelation 1:4-5 John, to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from THE SEVEN SPIRITS who are before His throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth.

Isaiah 11:1-2
There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse,
And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.
The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him,
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The Spirit of counsel and might,
The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

Are THE SEVEN SPIRITS an idiom of the Holy Spirit?

Mt. Sinai and Pentecost – Something in Common?
Fifty days after the Israelites left Egypt (Passover) the Law was given at Mt. Sinai.
Fifty days after the crucifixion of Christ (Passover) the Holy Spirit was given at Pentecost.

The Israelites left Egypt on Passover and 40 days later arrived at Sinai. Then Moses went up on a mountain to see God (Mt. Sinai). Ten days later Moses came down with the Law and the Israelites broke the covenant and 3000 people died as a result.

Jesus died on Passover and 40 days after the resurrection, Jesus and His disciples went up on the Mount of Olives, near Jerusalem where he ascended. Ten days after Jesus ascended, the Holy Spirit came down and 3000 people were saved!

The law of Moses was a law of spiritual death because nobody could keep it perfectly, but the law of Christ is a law of life because it provides for the forgiveness of our sins.

What other parallels and similarities do these two events (Mt. Sinai and Pentecost) in Bible history reveal to you?

Both events happened to a newly redeemed people. The Exodus marked the birth of the Israelite nation while the Pentecost events recorded in Acts 2 marked the birth of Christianity.

Both events had similar sounds and symbols-wind, fire, smoke, voices-the Hebrew word translated thunder in Exodus is “kolot” (Strong’s H6963), which means voices or languages. Think about this in light of the Acts 2.

The fire at Sinai was one fire visible by all.
The fire at Pentecost was individual fires on every person.

In the event at Mt. Sinai, the people were kept away from the fire.
In the event in Acts, the fire came to the people.

At Sinai He gave the Law written by His finger on Tablets of Stone.
At Pentecost, He gave the Law written on Tablets of the Heart.

In both events a mixed multitude of people were represented (Exodus 12:38 & Acts 2:5)

Think about these parallels!

What a mighty God we serve!

Pentecost: A reversal of Babel
I would like to show a connection between speaking in tongues at Pentecost and the Tower of Babel?

The first Great Commission was a physical great commission Genesis 1:28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth. In Matt 29:19-20 Jesus gave us a spiritual great commission. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

After the Flood, God once again gave the physical great commission when He commanded man to "increase in number and fill the earth" (Genesis 9:1).

The people did the opposite, Instead “they said, ‘Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth’” (Genesis 11:4).

In response God said, Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other." (Genesis 11:7). So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. (Genesis 11:8). God confused the languages at the Tower of Babel to enforce His command for man to spread throughout the entire world.

Now skip forward many years to Pentecost. Jews from many countries had returned to Jerusalem to worship. They spoke many different languages. Acts 2:5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

The different languages would have hindered the spreading of the gospel. Jesus’ disciples were mostly uneducated men who only spoke their native language. God gave them the gift of speaking in different languages so that they might spread the good news to as many people as possible. Each man visiting Jerusalem was able to hear Peter’s sermon in his own native language. Pretty cool! The language barrier was broken.

• The tower of Babel brought about disunity and a scattering of people
• Pentecost brought about unity and a scattering of Believers

Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

By God's grace 3000 people accepted the gospel.
So in my opinion yes, there is a connection.

The Great Commission says- Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Rather than building a tower of Babel to our own glory,
Let us be living stones in the temple of God who take the message to all people.
