A church needs a 'revival' because it has spiritually died. We hate to admit this could happen, but churches (and individual Christians!) do spiritually die. They need to be brought back to life.

"Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus." (Luke 24:1-3)
He Has Risen!
A common misconception that people have is that by having a 'revival' people will come to church. But that is not what revival is for. A revival is to wake up sleeping Christians. It is evangelism that brings people to Christ and the church, and that is done by us as believers.
One of the most misunderstood concepts in the church is revival. It is not what people think. It is not a program or outreach method. It is the church as a whole repenting and returning to her first love - Jesus Himself.
I saw a meme earlier talking about how many people seem to be popping up who call themselves prophets (it was a good meme this time, honest). Keith Green once did a message about prophets, and he mentioned himself in it, because he thought he fell prey to its negative aspects. People like to be prophets, because it is cool - you can be a loner, moody, obnoxious, and have no accountability, be proud of yourself and have an air of spiritual authority all at the same time. If someone calls you out on those things, well, then it must be the critic that is "unspiritual" or a "heretic." The title prophet appeals to our flesh, because it deceives us to think we can say whatever and however, regardless of the consequences. But this is not so of the prophets in the Bible. A prophet in the Bible did not talk about the excellencies of their government or people - they called them out for their sinfulness. When reading the Old Testament prophets rarely do you get the idea that the prophet had a big ego. Very very rarely was a prophet a celebrity, even in religious circles - they were hated for their message. The burden of the prophet is a heavy mantle, and should not be taken lightly. My concern is that too many take up the title as a way to achieve their own goals and make themselves into a "somebody." And in our celebrity driven culture (even in the church), this type of person is enabled. I think we need to do better because these "celebrity prophets" cause the church to overlook those with a real message and vision from God, and the church is weaker because of it.
