I am sharing this because it is an issue for the church. This family is taking a stand and needs financial support. In a public charter school in North Carolina they have chosen a book, Poet X, as required reading. This is the third year it will have been taught. This book is as anti Christian as they come. In short, the author writing about her adolescent self, describes not only questioning her mother's Orthodox Catholicism but systemically degrades it from Genesis to Revelation. She uses The Word of God as titles of her chapters and then drags Jesus, communion, the Bible and more through the mud as she goes on to describe, masturbation, sexuality and other unsavory topics. This is being read in 9th grade! I attended the preliminary court case in which they were trying to restrain this book from being taught as a clear infringement upon 1st amendment rights. The judge ruled in favor of the school so it is being read now. This book degrades Christianity and then makes a case for her new religion which is self. One line in her conclusion even professes that what she is stating is blasphemy. It is beyond disturbing. The school is spending money to defend themselves and many parents don't care or see anything wrong with it. I will post a short video about it in comments. This family is investing a lot of money in this case and I believe it must have its day on trial. Please pray and consider donating. Share this message. Update on our case. We are dropping the appeal for injunctive relief at the 4th Circuit, as the book is already being taught this year, but we are proceeding to trial at the Federal District Court level on the merits of the case. We still feel strongly the book violates the 1st Amendment establishment clause, as it takes a negative position on the merits of Christianity. From here on out, the case is all about protecting future kids from being harmed, not our own. We are humbly asking for support from our fellow parents and concerned Christians to defray the cost.
