TURNING THE TRUCK AROUND ON THE EDGE OF A CLIFF IN UGANDA

With photography, it is difficult to capture the steepness of a cliff, but you CAN see the edge of this one in the foreground. As we arrived in the village where we were to hold our next meeting, we passed up the meeting place and kept driving until we found ourselves on a road that had a steep cliff on both sides. When we realized that we had gone too far, we started backing back up. Soon Pastor Maungo decided to turn the truck around. I told him that there was not enough room. There are steep cliffs on both sides of the truck. He insisted that he could do it. I said, "Let me get out first!" He managed to make the turnaround, but he came within just a couple of feet from the edge. That was just a little too close for me!

POWERFUL POLITICAL LEADER IN INDIA BECAME ANGRY

India is a communist country and political leaders are feared because of their power. While in India, I was advised to meet with such a political leader before proceeding with our meetings in his town. When we entered his office, he called for his servant and commanded him to serve tea. He and my team leader began speaking in their Indian language. After a few moments, he learned about what I was doing there, and he became VERY ANGRY! He shouted at my team leader and said, "Why have you brought this VIP from America into my town and put him up in that shabby hotel room? In this, you have shamed me! He immediately called for his escort vehicles and ordered to have me taken to the VIP suite where foreign diplomats stay. They transferred my luggage to the air-conditioned VIP suite, and I stayed there for our entire week for free - compliments of the Indian government!

BEAT UP CAR BARELY GETS US TO THE NEXT VILLAGE IN KENYA

As we were preparing to leave for this village, I noticed that the car that we hired was in terrible shape. It had a bald tire with deep cracks in the side walls. The spare was in worse shape than that. We stopped to put water in the radiator. The rain started pouring down. The windshield wipers were not working, and the blower fan didn't work, and so the windshield was fogging up. The road was rough and slippery with a lot of runoff water cutting through the muddy road. The oil light came on, and the brake line blew out. Halfway up the mountain, we ran out of gas. The driver had some backup fuel in a jug. He poured it into the tank, and we kept going. It seemed like everything was against us, but by the time we reached the village, the rain stopped and hundreds of people gathered. 167 trusted Christ in that meeting, and a new church was planted there.

A DEAD MAN ON THE ROAD IN INDIA
While driving to the next village in our India meetings, we saw a dead man lying in the middle of the road (not shown). Someone put out stones to divert traffic around the dead man's body so that it would not be run over. We saw the wreckage and realized that there had been a terrible accident. I asked why the dead man was not moved off of the road. I was told that when the police come, and start asking questions, the people will say that they know nothing about it. Anyone admitting to knowing anything about what happened will be taken to jail and arrested for having something to do with the man's death. People just go about their business as though the dead body is not there. That is the way things work in India.
