And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.....Gen 1:3-5 An interesting observation here... "Light" was spoken into existence by God the creator prior to the creation of the elements that produce "Light" such as the Sun and the stars. Darkness was across the face of the deep. "Light" was created as a separation to distinguish itself within the darkness. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.... 2 Corinthians 4:6 The use of light in this text refers to enlightenment, knowledge and refers also to God's Glory shining in the face of Jesus Christ. "Light" expresses itself using knowledge and glory. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not....John 1:4-5 In John the "Light" of men is described as life and that life shines in such a way that the darkness has no understanding of it, or cannot exist with it. So to conclude today's study.....If we are in the light as he is in the light then we are.... 1) Distinguished within the darkness of the world 2) Equipped in our hearts with "enlightenment" or knowledge of God's Glory. 3) Existing as beings of light that the darkness cannot corrupt. This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.....John 1:5-9
