Kroger's also known as Ralph's supermarkets apparently is planning to close 2 locations in Long Beach here in Southern California. Apparently the city council voted that they must pay a "heroes" increase of $4 per hour to their "essential" workers on the front lines of selling food to the populace. People are up in arms and outraged and the unions are up in arms and outraged and somehow or other they have forgotten what capitalism actually is. We cannot force a company to stay in business if they believe it is in their best interest to leave that business. A lot of people nowadays seem to think companies are here to provide jobs and it's only for the benefit of their customers and workers that they exist. We are still a free country I think, and so far we are allowed to conduct our business as we see fit. I don't see how they think they can force a company to stay in business and pay whatever wage they determine the business ought to pay and never mind if they make a profit and who cares about them at all because they owe it to us to be here and to do what they are told, right? I think it's hilarious.
