Second order consequences.
Of all the things that we have lost in the last seven months, Three I miss most:
Smiles. Greeting a friend, feeling that natural smile come up on my face, and then realizing that they can't see me smile through the mandated masks. Wishing I could see them smile in return. The smile of friendship has been banned.
Handshakes. Yes, I am a Man, and this is a big deal. It is respect, and recognition of the other guys value. It is a seal of commitment. It is how Men confer honor on each other. But this is not the first attack on Manhood we have endured.
Hugs. My Mom is in a Nursing Home, in lock down. We moved Mom and Dad in with us 5 years ago so they could spend their last days close to family. Last year Mom "coded" on the operating table and spent 3 months on a ventilator. Dad lived to see her recover. Two months later, Dad passed, and went home to heaven. Yes, I really want to hug my Mom.
Consequences are not just economic, they are Human.
