THOUGHTS FROM THE PASTOR’S STUDY
Things I Never Told Mom, She Did What She Could
I was raised by good parents, I knew I was loved. When I was very young there was not a lot of extra money. At times we and the neighbor kids would want some money to go to town and buy candy. Mom would dig to the bottom of her purse and give us a nickel. Some had more, but my nickel would buy a pop, a hand full of candy, or a Popsicle. I never said anything to mom about the nickel she was doing what she could.
Where I started school there was no cafeteria so we took our lunch. Some kids had lunch buckets, some had paper bags, but most of the time I had two sandwiches wrapped in a newspaper all nice and neat folded in itself real tight. I was ashamed of the newspaper no one else had that, but I never told mom she was doing what she could. When I was older and clothes started mattering we never got what was in style while it was in style. After it was out of style mom could afford it so she often bought us the Item and she was happy she could, but I wasn’t because something else was now in style, but I never told mom, she was doing what she could. There were several of those times in our lives that I never told mom she was doing what she could and she worked hard to do that. When mom passed away the pastor that done her funeral had known her for fifty years, his theme was SHE DID WHAT SHE COULD. Amen.
What helps make a successful mother today? One thing is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and Father God. Mary the mother of Jesus knew God and He knew her. Luke 1:30 Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. In Luke 1:46-47 Mary said: "My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. Mary was magnifying and rejoicing God with all of her being. Another thing is a proper relationship with her family. Mary supported her husband’s leadership, she moved to Egypt at his word. Jesus was obedient to his parents Luke 2:51 Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in her heart. Mary was at the foot of the cross. John 19:25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
Another thing is the willingness to serve the God. Luke 1:38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to your word. And the angel departed from her. I thank God for the mother I had and all the Godly mothers out there today. Have a great day. THE ONE WHO FOLLOWS ME
A careful mother I ought to be,
A little one is following me
I do not dare to go astray
For fear she’ll go the selfsame way.
I cannot once escape her eyes,
Whatever she sees me do, she tries.
Like me she says she’s going to be
That little one who follows me.
She thinks that I am good and fine,
Believes in every word of mine;
The base in me she must not see
That little one who follows me.
I must remember as I go
Through summer’s sun and winter’s snow
I am building for the years to be
That little one who follows me. Author Unknown
