In 1836, while defenders of the Alamo were fighting to restore the Mexican constitution of 1824, Delegates of the People of Texas, in General Convention at the town of Washington-on-the-Brazos, declared independence from Mexico. Defenders of the Alamo never learned theirs was the first battle in a short war for Texas independence. Happy Texas Independence day!
