The Shulamite maiden in the Song of Solomon says five times "Oh, thou whom my soul loveth..." The Hebrew word for soul is "nephesh" and it means "the totality of a person - body, soul and spirit." Nephesh even refers to all things that are an extension of our lives - such as our possessions. When God breathed into Adam, the man became a "living soul (nephesh). To say, "I have found the one my soul loveth" is like saying: "I have found the one who is the source of my life." The fact that she repeats this statement five times indicates that the life and love that God gives us come to us by grace (5 is the number representing grace in Jewish Gematria)
