Runescape Developer Jagex has put an end with RS Gold, a fan-made HD mod to the popular online client, which is an open source project for Old School Runescape, just at the time the project was scheduled to go live on Monday. This decision, made in the last minute, has Runescape fans decrying Jagex's decision and insisting that they will move towards other MMOs.

Runelite HD developer "117" posted on Reddit Tuesday, sharing the message from Jagex, which was later accepted by Jagex in the company's own blog post. Runelite HD operates as a plugin that will provide an extensive visual overhaul to the base Runescape which can be found by 117's Twitter. Moderator 117 said they've logged around 200 hours over the past two years working on Runelite HD.

"Yesterday we reached out to the developers of known HD projects and asked them to stop development of their games, as this is a project that we are currently investigating directly," Jagex stated. Jagex addressed 117 with the news that the company's work on the development of an HD edition of Old School Runescape was "still very early in the exploratory phases" but "very far from being finished."

"Naturally this implies the fan-led project that intends to alter the style of Old School RuneScape appears will be not in line with our strategies," Jagex wrote to 117. "We think it's absolutely vital to ensure consistency in the manner that Old School looks and that's why we want to be sure that our changes to the official version will be the only ones that are available.

It is our hope that the announcement is that Jagex as well as the Old School team are tackling this project seriously is something that excites you even though it may require us to gently ask you to shut down your personal website."

117 reported that they had offered Jagex an alternative by removing their project after Jagex had released theirs, and also giving Jagex "collaborative oversight" over Runelite HD's visual style.

"They refused to participate," 117 said. "I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with Jagex, and I regret that, after this lengthy journey I'm not able share this project with you. The mod 117 has been working on doesn't appear to be in line with Jagex's guidelines for third-party client applications, however the Runescape developer claims that it's amending the guidelines this week to include references to projects that affect the look of the game.

Original Runelite developer Adam1210 posted his views on Reddit in which he said that allowing Runelite HD to continue will be a major advantage for any future updates that are made by Buy RS Gold.
