One of Valorant’s most controversial maps is getting a slight rework soon. According to maps and modes design lead Joe Lansford, the team is working on a couple of Fracture changes to improve the overall player experience.

Among the most common complaints are the number of different angles that players can come from. With a lot of elevation differences and huge potential for rotation around the map, players can quickly flank around and surround their opponents, making it difficult to ever know where your foes are coming from. There’s also a running joke that Fracture’s A site feels like a B site – something players say they can’t explain, but just feels true somehow.

In addition to outlining the changes players can expect in the future, Lansford provided a little insight into the design and ideas behind creating Fracture. Anyone who plays VALORANT can tell you that the layout of spawns and sites on Fracture is unique to other maps, but Lansford explains precisely what the team was aiming for when it was created.

In the past, Riot Games has made small but meaningful changes to maps like Split, Bind, and Breeze. The changes helped them feel a lot more balanced, in addition to simplifying several engagements and making spaces feel more intuitive.

In a Twitter post, Lansford clarifies that “we’re not really ‘reworking’ the map. The core gameplay will still be the same.” It sounds, then, like this won’t necessarily solve everyone’s gripes with the map – but it should provide some welcome updates to freshen up the flow of matches on Fracture. Players in the responses say they are happy to see the Dish area getting some attention, while others who are fans of Fracture express relief that the map isn’t being changed too dramatically. There’s two sides to every story, after all..

The unique design of Fracture has resulted in some different agent compositions as well. During Episode Five, Act One, Breach and Neon had overall pick rates of around three percent per Blitz.gg, but on Fracture, those numbers increased dramatically, especially for Breach at the higher ranks.
