FIFA is dead; long live FIFA. In the midst of an era FIFA 23 marks yet another year of shrewd attrition from EA, as several strategic and aesthetic changes are incorporated into its sturdy gameplan. But it's also a title that feels both anchored and sucked up by its Ragnarok position, dropping a red-orange final curtain while the football game genre becomes a blur of chaos.

Theatrical additions to gameplay, such as the brutal Power Shots, ensure that the FIFA name is released with a bang instead of a whimper. Holding the bumpers and pressing shoot, your striker transforms into one of the raiders by launching an unstoppable attack, the camera focusing when they leather the ball by sending shockwaves of bootstrap blasts through the PS5's speakers for controller. If you've got your correct angle, FIFA 23's newly improved goalkeepers can be skilled enough to stop it with their individually simulated fingers, which have saved my bacon on a few occasions.

Take it seriously, though in the event that the forward is able to move chances are it will get caught in the net's back regardless of just how far out you are. The meta-shaking shot teases out the halcyon times that Francesco Totti hit-and-hope long shots which were seen in the beginning of 2010s FIFA, but don't worry as online multiplayer continues to be filled with fast wingers who pass it across the box on the break.
