Dryer is hopeful that something will work out, that he and his former teammates can reach a deal with Madden NFL 23 that will directly compensate them for the use of their images but also give them the rights to it.

"I often conduct commercial transactions using my likeness as an actor and a producer," Dryer said. "My image is the basis of my business. It's my brand. Everyone has a brand and each is entitled to direct their brand in the direction they want.

"I am not able to steal another's likeness and make use of it to promote my interests without contacting and paying that person. So why is it OK for the league to seize our rights without paying us anything?"
