The New King Hates God’s People

Historians tell us that that time that is being recorded here in the book of Exodus, a new dynasty had arisen in Egypt. The upper and lower kingdoms of Egypt, which had been at war, were now joined under one Pharaoh. The old Pharaoh’s kingdom, the old dynasty, that had allowed Jacob and his children to enter Egypt and live in peace, was overthrown and the new kings of lower Egypt now ruled.

Ready for some ancient Egyptian history? I know you are! It seems that “The Hyskos invaders controlled Egypt from about 1720 B.C. until 1570. They were driven from the land by Amosis I, the founder of the Eighteenth Dynasty. After the expulsion of the hated foreign kings, the enmity of the Egyptians was turned against all who had been associated with them, particularly the Hebrews, who were related to the Hyksos both by race and by position. (from The Wycliffe Bible Commentary)

The Hebrews came under an oppressive authority which hated them because they represented the old ruler who they saw as an occupying force.

The King of This World Hates God people.

As I was thinking about this I realized that there is a parallel, an application that can be made between the Hebrews in Egypt and Christians in our country today. For we in this country also have in the last few decades come under a new authority, a new king so to speak. A new king that hates everything and everyone associated with the old authority.

You see, we were once a country that viewed and believed itself “a nation under God.” Yes, it’s still in our pledge of allegiance, but not much of anywhere else. Some today would even deny that our nation was ever a “Christian” nation, but the proof of that truth is found everywhere in our history.

Let me take a moment to define what I mean and what I think is historically true about being a Christian nation. I don’t mean that we were a theocracy. The Anglican / Presbyterian / Puritans tried to establish their colonies and towns that way and it was a disaster. America was never a theocracy governed directly by the Old Testament Laws as given to the Israelites. No modern nation should ever try and be what only Israel was meant to be and even they failed to be.  

But America was a nation that based its laws, culture and institutions on the foundation of what the Bible taught. We were a nation heavily, if not exclusively, influenced and shaped by belief in and submission to the God of the Bible.

There is undeniable historical proof of this truth.

Our Declaration of Independence was a declaration of our belief in on God. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Our Constitution was a foundation for a nation founded on God’s Word.

At least 50 out of the 55 men who framed the Constitution of the United States were professing Christians. (M.E. Bradford, 1982).

Benjamin Franklin, at the Constitutional Convention gave this plea when they had reached an impasse and could not go forward. “I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth: "that God governs in the affairs of man." And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?

We have been assured, Sir, in the Sacred Writings that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. I firmly believe this. I also believe that without His concurring aid, we shall succeed in the political building no better than the builders of Babel; we shall be divided by our little, partial local interests; our projects will be confounded; and we ourselves shall become a reproach and a byword down to future ages. And what is worse, mankind may hereafter from this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing government by human wisdom and leave it to chance, war or conquest. I therefore beg leave to move that, henceforth, prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven and its blessing on our deliberation be held in this assembly every morning before we proceed to business.”

The Convention was dismissed and a declaration made for all citizens to pray and fast seeking God’s intervention. And after that recess of prayer and fasting The United States of America arose.

There is much, much more, but we will save it for another time. But even from this small sampling we see that our nation had a foundation on the Word of God, in the prayers to God and the morality taught by God. What the Founding Fathers believed then and what even what our parents and grandparents believed just a few years ago is what promised in ….

Psalms 33:12-18 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth. He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works. There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength. Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;

But that belief is no longer the case in the United States. Today a new dynasty is in power. A new king has invaded the land and he despises all that the old authority stood for.

Since the 1960s our nation has been turned morally upside down and spiritually inside out. Prayer has been purged from public schools. The Ten Commandments has been ripped from the walls of schools and state capitals. Even the sidewalks outside any government building are a forbidden zone for any reminders of God in this nation.  The Bible is almost universally forbidden to be read in any city, state or federal government building. Crosses, that symbolize the sacrifice of our Savior for our salvation, have been torn down and removed from parks, government buildings and even official seals or flags.

Homosexual marriage is not only legal it is encouraged and praised. Drug use has been legalized from border to border. Innocent children are being mentally, emotionally and spiritually scared by sexual perversion promoted by the entertainment industry, the media, libraries, and our government. We are told by “doctors, scientists and psychologists” that even biological genders which come from the Creator, no longer exist. There is no such thing as a man or a woman. Choose whatever you want to be and do whatever you want to do because if there is no God then there is no right or wrong, no truth or lie, no black and no white.

You can’t help but remember the words of God through Isaiah in …

Isaiah’s Woe Upon Wickedness found in Isaiah 5:20-23 20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! 21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!  22 Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink: 23 Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

Never have those words of God been truer than they are in our nation than today. Let’s go back to Exodus and see if there other application and warnings we can find as God’s people in the land of a Godless king, then and now.
