In an email dated March 10, 2021, Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) ignored the principle of INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY and continued to make unfounded allegations and accusations against the 45th President, Donald J. Trump... after he was ACQUITTED, not convicted, for impeachment.
Here is the disgusting, hypocritical letter, filled with double-standards, and sadly lacking facts. Baldwin conveniently ignores or overlooks that the prosecution DOCTORED EVIDENCE, presenting falsified records... as though they are above the law.
"On January 6, President Trump incited a violent insurrection against Congress as we were working to faithfully carry out our constitutional duties to accept the vote of the American people. This attack on our democracy made it clear that President Trump broke his oath to support and defend the Constitution and that he was unfit to serve. I joined the bipartisan calls for Vice President Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment. I was disappointed that Vice President Pence declined to take this important step. Because of Vice President Pence’s inaction and President Trump’s refusal to resign, I supported Congress moving forward with the impeachment of President Trump.
Our nation's founders created a system of checks and balances, providing for congressional oversight as a fundamental part of ensuring co-equal branches of government. I took an oath of office to uphold the Constitution. I take that sacred pledge very seriously. President Trump also took an oath of office, swearing to "...preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." I am afraid that President Trump sees himself as above the law and his actions following the first impeachment trial suggest that he has since felt further emboldened because the Senate did not vote to remove him from office and hold him accountable for his actions. But, the President of the United States is not above the law, and we have a constitutional duty to act when he puts his own personal, political interests ahead of our national interest.
Article II, Section 4 of our Constitution clearly delineates that the removal of the president and vice president for, is for among other things, "high crimes and misdemeanors." Impeachment is the ultimate power that Congress has to prevent and punish abuse of power from individuals holding office within the Executive and Judicial branches. On January 13, 2021, a bipartisan majority of the House of Representatives voted to impeach President Trump for incitement of insurrection.
During the impeachment trial, the House impeachment managers presented clear and convincing evidence that President Trump incited the violent insurrection against the Capitol. As a result, I joined fifty-six Senators, a bipartisan majority, in voting to convict Donald Trump of the charges outlined in the House’s article of impeachment. Unfortunately, this fell short of the two-thirds majority required for conviction under the Constitution. I voted for convicting Trump because he should be held accountable for inciting a violent insurrection against the will of the people, Congress, and our democracy. He should be held accountable for violating his oath of office and failing to support and defend our Constitution. Now that the Senate has passed its judgement, every American will get to make their own. I trust that you will be guided by our common good and truth. It is my hope that in Wisconsin, the truth still matters. I can assure you it will always matter to me.
At this moment of crisis in our country we need real leaders. We need leaders who respect the will of the people, the voice of the people and the votes of the people. If these recent events have taught us anything, it is that leadership, experience and judgment matter."
